Time tracking can be beneficial for project scheduling and accurately billing for business services, but it can be tedious and time consuming. As with many things, having the right tool can make all the difference. We recently discovered an online program called Timecamp that’s user friendly, quick and offers robust reporting options, as well as a mobile app and desktop tracker.
The entry-level program is free. When you sign up at timecamp.com, you’ll begin with a 30-day full trial of their software. They don’t require a credit card to sign up, so there’s no fear of being trapped. The full pro-version is $9 a month per seat. It enables having multiple users with varied levels of access on the account, mobile & desktop apps, integration with project management software like Trello, invoicing, export to excel, a real-time dashboard, and a project budgeting feature that allows tracking of budgeted time against project time reporting. A basic version, at $6 a month per seat, doesn’t include the real-time dashboard, invoicing, or budget features, but still includes expansion to multiple users. The free version is single user only with the time sheets and reporting.
Freelancers and sole proprietor service providers may find that the free version is perfect. Type in the name of the project or select one you have entered previously, click the timer and let it roll until you’re done. Or add the time manually.
There’s a column for notes that can be added any time. Entries can be corrected or easily deleted if you make a mistake.
If you’re using a paid version and download the app, the time tracker is with you on the job. Once the time is entered, there are various options for running reports from all three software versions.
